A 10-foot (3-meter) mako shark has been reeled in off a beach in Florida by shark angler Will Smith and his friend Bill Dunlop.

Smith posed with the behemoth, which was released the same night. The fish was captured just after midnight some two weeks ago.

According to Grind TV, it took 45 minutes for Smith and Dunlop to bring the shark onboard. It was never weighed, but the anglers did measure it.

The fish was 10 feet, 8 inches (3.25 meters) long and 60 inches (152 cm) in girth. An assessment based on these measurements puts it somewhere around the 550 pound (250 kg) mark.

“She makes a nice solid run as I put the heat to her, and finally she slows down and I crank like a madman to keep that line tight. During the entire fight, she made me drag every inch of her back in, bull-dogging me,” Smith describes the experience.

The pair are not releasing the exact location of their find in view of the fact that the Big Hammer Shark Tournament is starting soon.
