Companies in need of guidance when building SharePoint Server 2010 systems can leverage a free resource offered by Microsoft.

The Redmond company is offering a free resource designed to provide insight into SharePoint Server 2010 requirements but also authentication, and business continuity management for the product.

Available for download free of charge, the “Planning guide for server farms and environments for Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010” guidance is designed for “business application specialists, line-of-business specialists, information architects, IT generalists, program managers, and infrastructure specialists,” according to the software giant.

The guidance will best come in handy when customers are in the planning phase of deployment SharePoint Server 2010. Still, it’s bound to help even IE pros that are more advanced in the deployment process.

“Before you install Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010, you must ensure that you have installed all required hardware and software,” the company notes.

“To effectively plan your deployment, you must understand the level of support provided for the Web browsers that you will be using in your environment and how support for IP versions 4 and 6 is implemented in SharePoint Server 2010. You must also understand the URL and path length restrictions in SharePoint Server 2010.”

There is more to SharePoint Server 2010 server farm guidance than just the system requirements, of course.

IT pros can take advantage of the guide in order to understand the best strategies in order to deal with services architecture, logical architecture, authentication, security hardening, performance and capacity and even virtualization.

It’s important to note that IT professionals can always head over to TechNet and get additional guidance of SharePoint Server 2010, as well as on a range of other technologies from the software giant.

The role of TechNet is after all to provide IT pros with the necessary help so that they can make the best of Microsoft products.
