It's Shaq Fu 2, believe it or not, this time with a vengeance

Nobody expected Shaq Fu 2 to be a real thing when it was hinted at in January, but it appears that the basketball superstar is committed to starring in yet another production. Well, to be honest, nobody expected Shaq Fu to be a real thing either, but that was an entirely different era.

As such, Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn is now on Indiegogo, with a pretty ambitious funding goal of $450k / €325k, open to all kinds of monetary support until April 20.

The developer is Big Deez Productions, a team of industry professionals with experience working on Halo, Street Fighter, Final Fantasy, Battlefield and other huge video game titles, and the man himself, Shaquille O'Neal, promises that "this time we won't FU it up."

They've already got an animated intro to set the mood for the return of the towering virtual brawler to the spotlight, and are promising to make a truly outstanding game that only shares the title and the protagonist with the '94 abomination.

They're also offering some weird backer rewards, from Shaq Fu: A Legend Returns t-shirts, a signed original size 22 Shaq Attack sneaker and having Shaq record your voicemail to shooting hoops with the superstar on his own court, at his house and having dinner with the big man and your friends.

Additionally, 5 percent of all profits gained from the game will go toward the Boys and Girls Clubs of America.

More to the point, the game is poised to land somewhere between Streets of Rage, Street Fighter and Devil May Cry, a modern take on a classic beat'em up with a dynamic and complex fighting system, only starring the rapper/actor basketball player.

You get to play as Shaq "as he kicks ass and takes no prisoners," using an intricate combo system that uses hundreds of moves and allows for a variety of fighting tactics. The game's hordes of opponents will be battled in traditional beat'em up fashion, but they'll come with an adaptive AI that will challenge even the best of players.

Once you beat a boss, you unlock him and can play as him, throughout the game's environments ranging from Asian slums to the rooftops of Skyscrapers, as you make use of a wide array of melee and projectile weapons.

The game is intended to come with both local and online cooperative multiplayer, and will even allow players to face off in 1v1 matches and see who's got the best build and dopest moves.

The team is currently planning on developing Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn for the PC, with stretch goals listed for iOS and Android, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita and Nintendo 3DS, Wii U and even Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
