Actress Shannen Doherty has landed her own wedding special slash reality series. WEtv will present the star in a light she’s never been seen before in the first season of the unscripted series, which will culminate with her big wedding day.

Entertainment Weekly has learned that the new show, which is yet to be announced officially and, just as important, to be given a name, will document Shannen’s preparations for the wedding.

At the same time, she’s also renovating her home, which should mean double the stress and double the number of things that can go wrong.

Given Doherty’s reputation of a highly flammable temper and the fact that the series is unscripted, fans should expect one thrilling ride.

“The project will chronicle Doherty as she manages all the hectic aspects of preparing for her new marriage (meeting with wedding planners, choosing a venue, and of course, saying yes to a dress) while also renovating her Malibu home,” EW says.

The e-zine also notes that celebrity docu-soaps have proven very popular in recent year. Even Shannen’s “90210” co-star Tori Spelling has re-invented her career with their help, being more of a reality star than an actress.

“People will see a side of Shannen they never expected to see,” WEtv executive John Miller says for EW. He professes he was immediately sold to the idea when Doherty pitched it to him, and showed herself “unfiltered, honest and vulnerable.”

Because of this, Miller has high hopes that the series will actually make it past season 1 – that is, that viewers will also tune it after the season finale, when Doherty ties the knot with her photographer fiancé Kurt Iswarienko.

“I would watch her go to a supermarket. She’s insanely compelling,” Miller says.

Of course, whether the show will live past its first season is only for the ratings to decide. An air date is yet to be announced, so make sure you keep an eye on this space for when it’s made public.
