A number of 50 individuals have been arrested by authorities in Shanghai. The police believe that the suspects are responsible for selling large quantities of sensitive information.

The raids performed as part of the investigation unearthed close to 200 million pieces of information being stored on the suspects’ computers, The Shanghai Daily informs.

One of the accused men works for the Shanghai Health Bureau where he is responsible for maintaining the organization’s database. He used his position to steal the details of newborn children, selling them for the price of 30,000 yuan ($4,723 or €3,765).

Other fraudsters who leveraged their jobs to gain access to sensitive information worked for insurance companies.
