Mariah saves her voice for other endeavors and lip-syncs her appearance on a German show

Mariah Carey is famous for acting like the ultimate diva wherever she goes to the point that even her dog gets to fly by private jet and have a personal chauffeur. The singer never hesitates to throw ridiculous amounts of money in order to ensure she has absolute privacy whenever she travels abroad, and is known for being one of the most demanding celebrities out there, making outrageous demands and bringing along upwards of 100 pairs of shoes. However, it goes without saying - or so it should, anyway - that in exchange for being treated like the princess she believes herself to be, Mimi should at least deliver a reasonably good performance, a good live show, that is. Unfortunately, that seems to be too much to ask lately.

Lip-syncing is not the best way to promote your latest number one single, the very one which helped you break the Beatles record of #1s, in fact. And yet. Mariah made an appearance on German Idol this past weekend and instead of giving a live performance of her 18th #1 single "Touch My Body", she valiantly and visibly lip-synced the whole thing. Which drew very harsh criticism on the pop queen and made her look, oh, slightly ridiculous. Mariah's European tour also included a stay in Britain, where the singer channeled her inner diva and made some pretty costly demands; but when it came to doing some live performing, she bailed on her fans and lip-synced the same song during an appearance on U.K.'s Paul O'Grady show.

One (highly outrageous) speculation would be that Mariah only gives the lip-sync treatment to those annoying Europeans, saving the true might of her vocal cords for the native American land. However, given her reputation and stature in today's music industry, it is only logical to expect the feisty Miss Carey to deliver a show-stopping performance and raise to the expectations surrounding the "glitz and glamor" lifestyle. In any case, we'll keep an eye out for Mariah's future performances and have you posted on the latest news.

I salute Whitney Houston for her professionalism, the fact that she doesn't lip-synch, even though she has been criticised for going off key in her recent tours. I also salute her courage to stop singing until she gets her voice back. Record companies demand a lot out of artists. She could not rest enough to save her vocal chords with endless concerts following the Bodyguard soundtrack success. But she pulled through with her mezzo soprano and melismatic vocals. She is truly talented and professional in her approach towards her work. It's nodules that affect anyone who abuse their voice, and it is not surprising that Mariah and Celine have it too. But it is shameful to lip-synch and cheat concert-goers who pay through their nose to hear their favourite artist sing. I wouldn't mind paying and attend Whitney's concert even though she is not at her best now for the fact that she does live singing. I salute her.

Mariah Carey lip syncs pretty much anytime she is in front of an audience. She is very skilled at it so she has deceived millions into thinking she is singing live. It is easy to see she is always lip syncing. I am wondering if she has ever sang an entire song live and not sounded horrible. I have not been able to find one to date. She is basically Milli Vanilli in my eyes.
