The Pies Descalzos Foundation is a Colombian non-governmental organization created by Shakira. The organization is devoted to finding and providing opportunities for children who are victims of the violence in the country.
It originated in Barranquilla, a city on the Caribbean coast of Colombia, and is now reaching other parts of the country. The goal of Shakira with Pies Descalzos Foundation is to improve the education, nutrition, and the lives of the thousands of displaced children who are living in perilous conditions because of the violent internal conflict.
Shakira will receive the Spirit of Hope Award at this year's Billboard Latin Music Awards. The event shall be broadcasted live from the Seminole Hard Rock in Hollywood, Florida, on the Telemundo network on April 27th. The Latin pop queen, who also garnered eight nominations for the event, is being recognized for her work with the foundation mentioned above, which had quite some success in improving life conditions in native Colombia.
A worldwide tour is planed this June starting in Spain, following by a U.S.A tour and Latin America before returning to Europe. The latest Shakira's album, Oral Fixation, Vol. 2, is ranked 5th on U.S. top 100 albums, being the main charge over Shakira's summer tours.
