Shakira's lately involvement in all kinds of international events has made the beautiful Colombian known not only for the music she plays or the sensational dancing routine. After signing up the contract for an appearance at the Football World Championship's final in Berlin, she is now getting involved in social events.
After September 11th, there has been a significant decrease in attention towards social phenomena in
Latin America. The poverty, the lack of education for children, the land mines, all these trouble deeply a continent that has always been an issue for charity associations around the world.
So Shakira decided the success Latin music lately acknowledged could be used as a helping hand for some of the Latin Americans. She talked with several other Latin stars, like Alejandro Sanz or Juanes, and they set up a kind of Latin Live Aid, similar to the more famous charity show Live Aid. The main goal of the show will be, as far as Shakira says, to make at least visible a reality that most of the people ignore, i.e. the reality of Third World countries from South America.

There are no details available yet regarding the date or the exact location of the show. It's only been announced for sometime in 2007. However, before this there will be a similar event at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Los Angeles, on May 24th, held by Juanes, Sanz and Carlos Vives. The purpose will be raising money for young Colombian land mine victims.
Probably some of Shakira's lyrics could apply to the interest she has in assuring better life conditions for her fellows - "es una tortura perderte", therefore we'd better sing some more and raise money to avoid the torture!
