After the success of the collaboration with Rihanna, “Can't Remember to Forget You,” the Colombian singer is toning things down a bit with a slower ballad called “Empire.”

The song sounds a lot like the old Shakira, more in tune with her rock roots, as the lyrics talk of a cosmic love “Like the empire of the world unite/ We are alive/ And the stars make love to the universe/ You're my wild fire every single night/ We are alive.”

“Empire” has been released on Monday, February 24, and it premiered on VEVO where it enjoyed great success with fans that immediately praised her vocals. Granted, this song does seem to focus more on her singing talents, something which has been amiss from her last couple of songs.

Shakira is still putting the finishing touches to her tenth studio album that is billed for release on March 25. Until that date, she is continuing her role as a judge on the talent show “The Voice,” alongside Adam Levine, Blake Shelton and Usher.
