14 DAY TRIAL // Shakira is a first time mommy! The singer and boyfriend Gerard Pique have just welcomed their first child into the world, as a post on her official website proudly announces.
This way, fans of the two gorgeous stars know for sure that it’s not a trick, like last time, when Gerard pranked his followers on Twitter on the Spanish equivalent of April Fool’s Day.
“We are happy to announce the birth of Milan Pique Mebarak, son of Shakira Mebarak and Gerard Pique, born January 22nd at 9:36pm, in Barcelona, Spain,” the official announcement says.
It also includes an explanation for the name choice.
“The name Milan (pronounced MEE-lahn), means dear, loving and gracious in Slavic; in Ancient Roman, eager and laborious; and in Sanskrit, unification. Just like his father, baby Milan became a member of FC Barcelona at birth,” the announcement says.
“The hospital confirmed that the couple’s first child weighed approximately 6lbs. 6 ounces [2.89 kg], and that both mother and child are in excellent health,” it adds.
Shakira and Gerard first went public with their romance almost two years ago, in March 2011, but they had been linked romantically in the press for much longer before that.
Celebrities usually opt to keep a low profile at the onset of a new relationship, and only go “public” with it once they’re certain it’s something serious.
Going public means stepping out with that person as a couple at a public event.
The two announced the pregnancy in September last year, refusing to offer more details on their bundle of joy.
Throughout the pregnancy, Shakira kept pretty active, even performing and doing media appearances.
At the time Gerard thought of pranking his fans on the Feast of the Holy Innocents or Childermas in December, she hadn’t been seen in days, which only added more weight to the prank.
