Shakira Gives Birth to Baby Boy

Shakira and her FC Barcelona beau and baby daddy may be one of the most private couples in showbiz but, thanks to social media – Twitter in particular – their fans can always count on direct updates. Like the one that the singer has given birth.

“Ya ha nacido nuestro hijo! Estamos muy felices! Gracias a todos por vuestros mensajes!” Pique wrote on his Twitter feed just hours ago.

In English, that would be “Our son has been born! We are very happy! Thank you all for your messages.”

As would be expected of a new mom, Shakira is yet to say anything about the birth of her first child on her own Twitter page, because she’s presumably in the hospital.

Equally silent is a publicist for the star contacted for confirmation.

An explanation for that could be found in the fact that December 28 is like April’s Fools in Spain and Latin American countries, as Gossip Cop also points out.

The holiday is called Feast of the Holy Innocents or Childermas, and is celebrated by pulling all sorts of pranks (inocentadas), just like we all do on April 1.

Or it could be just a coincidence, and Shakira has really given birth to her and Gerard’s son.

Shakira confirmed the pregnancy in September this year, but did not say when she was due. Some voices online said that the baby would come next month or in perhaps even later, in February.

“As some of you may know, Gerard and I are very happy awaiting the arrival of our first baby!” the singer wrote on her Facebook at the time.

Shakira and Gerard went public with their romance in March 2011, but were romantically linked in the press for some time before that.

This is the first child for both.
