Shakira Dedicates MTV Awards to the Latin Community

The sexy Columbian singer, whose voice and moves have thrilled the entire globe, has officially become the fist Latino performer ever to be nominated for seven awards.

On Thursday, during a press conference, Shakira proved that, although such a big hit in the United States and Europe, not for one second did she forget her roots.

Dressed simply and beautifully in a red top and a matching red cap, with long and curly honey-brown hair, the artist took a moment to thank her fans and to acknowledge all the Latin-Americans in the US.

'I too am one of them. This is an achievement I share with my Latinness, with my people, because I know this is only the beginning of a very long road and that we are just starting to demonstrate that we are different than previous conceptions'.

Shakira's video 'Hips Don't Lie' has been nominated for seven MTV awards, including the one for 'Video Of The Year', where it goes in tight competition with Red Hot Chili Peppers' 'Dani California'.
