Shakira Confirms Pregnancy

Mere days after she’s been confirmed as Christina Aguilera’s replacement on The Voice season 4, Shakira drops the bomb on her (mostly unsuspecting) fans on her Facebook page: she’s about to become a mommy!

Like many other female celebrities out there, Shakira was never in the safe as regards pregnancy rumors and the now well-known “baby bump watch” (where paparazzi take shots of stars from all angles, just so they can start pregnancy rumors).

These picked up as of late but, this time, they did so with good cause. Indeed, Shakira and beau Gerard Pique are expecting their first child together.

“As some of you may know, Gerard and I are very happy awaiting the arrival of our first baby!” Shakira writes on her Facebook page.

She doesn’t offer more details or even say how far along she is, but it would seem that the pregnancy is advanced enough to make it impossible for her to attend a pre-scheduled event.

“At this time we have decided to give priority to this unique moment in our lives and postpone all the promotional activities planned over the next few days,” the singer further says.

“This means I will not be able to be a part of the iHeartRadio Music Festival, but I’m sure this weekend in Las Vegas will be spectacular and I will be closely following everything that happens there!” adds the stunner.

“I’d like to thank Clear Channel and my fans for their constant love and understanding. Big kiss! And will see you very soon! Shakira,” she further says.

Fans will know that Shakira and Pique have been dating for a little over a year and a half, having confirmed their romance at the eleventh hour (i.e. after word had already gotten out in the press) in March 2011.

Before starting seeing the FC Barcelona soccer star, Shakira dated Antonio de la Rua for more than a decade. They remain business partners and excellent friends.
