Proving once again that the sexy Shakira is a phenomenon both in the United States and Latin America, the Latin Recording Academy just announced the nominations for the seventh edition of the annual awards, and she is in the lead.
The 'Hips Don't Lie' songbird got a nod for all the major categories, including 'Best Female Pop Vocal Album' (for 'Fijacion Oral Vol. 1'), 'Best Engineered Album', 'Best Short Video', 'Song of the Year' and 'Songwriter's Award' (for 'La Tortura', featuring Spanish sensation Alejandro Sanz).
Until now, 'Fijacion Oral' is the highest selling Spanish album, with 157,000 copies in its first week after the US release. But Shakira is not the only one that made the cut for the prestigious music awards. Other artists that have got many nominations and are considered among the favorites of the gala are Ricardo Arjona ('Record of the Year', 'Song of the Year' and 'Best Male Pop Vocal Album'), the duo Calle 13 ('Best New Artist' and 'Best Urban Music Album') and Julieta Venegas ('Album of the Year' and 'Record of the Year').
'Practically all the nominations today reflect a brush-stroke of every aspect [of Latin music] and Shakira is one of those. But there are a lot of artists who have [multiple] nominations. We've got Calle 13, Ricardo Arjona and Julieta Venegas... it really is multifaceted', the president of the Latin Recording Academy, Gabriel Alberto, said after he read the nominations.
The Latin Grammy Awards will take place on November 2nd in New York's Madison Square Garden and will be broadcasted live for the first time.
