Some breakups are more bitter than others, especially when there’s a lot of money involved. Antonio de la Rua has sued his former girlfriend, superstar Shakira, for $250 million (€191.4 million), but she’s now asking the judge to throw out the case.

As we also informed you on a couple of occasions, de la Rua is more or less suing Shakira for breaking up with him.

His argument is that he’s been instrumental in her success across the globe so, when she broke up with him, this instantly translated into a massive loss of revenue.

Plus, he says, he did lots of things for her in an unofficial quality and he never got paid for them.

Shakira is now telling a judge that all these claims are lies, the New York Daily News reports.

“I was already a well-known and recognized artist, and my international career was established and solid,” Shakira writes in an affidavit filed with the Manhattan Supreme Court, of meeting de la Rua in 2000.

She refutes his claims that he was instrumental in her success (de la Rua credits himself with “Hips Don’t Lie” and “Waka Waka”), saying he was just “one of my numerous advisers” and that she hired him more or less out of pity.

“Though he lacked experience or knowledge of the music industry, in 2005, at his request, I decided to involve [de la Rua] in some matters relating to the business [because he] was unemployed,” she says.

She explains that they’d been dating for a year when things became really complicated for him and he had to move in with her.

“When [de la Rua’s father] was forced to resign as president of Argentina at the end of 2001, plaintiff, for his own safety, became self-exiled from Argentina and he became unemployed,” Shakira says in the affidavit.

Based on this, she’s asking the judge to dismiss the lawsuit de al Rua filed against her, seeking a $250 million (€191.4 million) payout.
