The crowdfunding campaign for Shadowrun: Hong Kong has concluded, registering a wild success, managing to raise 1200 percent of its initial goal and securing the creation of an additional mini-campaign, where players will be able to use their high-level characters.

Developer Harebrained Scheme previously funded Shadowrun Returns through Kickstarter, and it turned out to be a great role-playing game, mixing fantasy elements within a cyberpunk setting, and having some of the best writing in the industry.

The Shadowrun: Hong Kong crowdfunding campaign was meant as a way to enable the community to get involved in the development process, and to secure additional funding in order to further expand the scope of the project.

The events of the upcoming game are set in a magically awakened Hong Kong, incorporating traditional cultural elements and the distinct aesthetic of the cyberpunk genre.

Gamers will be able to discover a conspiracy that dates back thirty years, and stop a supernatural force that corrupts and consumes everything it touches.

A second round of crowdfunding

Shadowrun Returns and Shadorun: Dragonfall were great examples of what a dedicated team can pull off when the focus is on pleasing a niche audience, and Shadowrun: Hong Kong's campaign proved once again that using Kickstarter is still a viable business model, if things are done right.

In order to give players who missed out on the Kickstarter a second chance, the developer decided to set up an additional fund raising round, on Backerkit, with a limited group of reward levels that will be available for everyone until March 13.

Those who missed on the original campaign will be able to get their hands on the game, some wallpapers, the digital soundtrack to all the games, as well as an original Shadowrun ebook and many other neat goodies, including commentary tracks from the developers, exclusive character portraits, and even an official Shadowrun Messenger Bag.
