Indie filmmakers as well as major movie producers use camera stabilizers to prevent shaky footage and dampen motion whenever needed. Often the best stabilizers are quite expensive and not everyone is able to take advantage of the latest technology available.

British manufacturer ShadowCam has recently announced the availability of a new camera stabilizer compatible with DSLRs and high-end pro series cinema cameras such as Canon C-series, Black Magic or Red Epic.

What's more special about this announcement is that ShadowCam S-5 is world's first “5-axis” (3 axes and 2 planes) hand-held camera stabilizer that can dampen movement on booth vertical and horizontal planes.

The ShadowCam S-5 uses the latest AlexMos hardware and software along with brushless motors and two-way shock absorbers, which allow the stabilizer to dampen about 180 mm / 7 inches of vertical or horizontal travel minimizing the “bob and weave” effect that occurs when the operator is running or walking.

Moreover, the ShadowCam S-5 comes with a raised position of the camera that allows you to easily frame a shot. Thanks to its carbon fiber and aluminum frame, the rig is lightweight, compact, easy to maneuver and measures only 230 mm / 9 inches wide with the arms folded down, which makes it perfect to operate with one hand.

Furthermore, the S-5 is also compatible with standard shoulder supports, can be transported easily thanks to its “fold-flat” design and comes with industry-standard rail system that allows you to use your own follow-focus, filters and barn doors.

The ShadowCam S-5 will start shipping in the UK from February 2014 and will hit market shelves worldwide starting March 2014 at a price of £3,995 / €4,824 / $6560. That's quite cheap if we take in consideration Firefly's MōVI M10, which is priced at $14,995 / €10,929 / £9,137.
