It seems that the movie version of the classic Shadow of the Colossus video game is set to be directed by Andres Muschietti, who has previously worked on the classic horror title Mama, and that the script on which the film will be based is being written by Seth Lochhead, one of the people who put together the story of the thriller Hanna.

A film version of the title, which has been loved by its fans for the complex story and for the beautifully created monsters that gamers need to take down, was first rumored in 2009, but since then it seems that limited progress has been made.

Although it has never become a classic blockbuster, Shadow of the Colossus managed to take home the Game Developers Choice Award in 2006 and was hailed as one of the rare titles that were able to elicit strong emotions among those who played it.

Gamasutra says that at the moment no actual details about the story of the movie have been offered and it is not clear how close it will stick to the narrative of the video game.

Traditionally, films based on popular titles have failed to perform well at the box office, but the strong connection between Shadow of the Colossus and its players might mean that it will have a strong initial potential audience.
