Women behave badly

Modern people may have achieved a lot of technological achievements, which could make us very proud of ourselves.

But, in fact, we are still deeply embedded in our prejudices.

Sexual stereotypes abound in each domain.

How do women react in front of this?

In a research made in January 2002, Professor Amanda Dickman, Professor of Social Psychology at Purdue University of West Lafayette, Indiana, investigated in over 800 adult subjects personality traits variation linked to gender.

The researcher discovered that women are overthrowing sexual stereotypes by adopting traits that are traditionally regarded as being typically masculine.

In a research investigating how sexual stereotypes in the game of poker, Pokerteam made an online survey of over 1,500 subjects.

The investigation, finished in January 2007, discovered that indeed sexual stereotypes are an important factor in the poker game, but with some unexpected situations and behaviors.

In a previous survey made by the World Poker Exchange in 2005, the investigators discovered that the likeliness of a woman playing online poker is 6 times higher than a man.

Following these studies, Pokerteam.com's investigation showed that currently 1 in 3 online poker players are women and that females have been increasingly adopting aggressive methods when they play the game.

The Pokerteam.com's investigation have detected that there are at least 3 main factors contributing to the increase of women participation in the poker world:

-Online poker gives the participant a high level of anonymity, eliminating the intimidation factor of stepping into a male dominated casino.

- Online poker offers to the beginners poker rules, tips, strategies and tutorials that help them hit the cards.

-Televised poker shows and tournaments like the World Poker Tour (WPT) and the World Series of Poker (WSOP) turn poker more exposed to the public.

In fact, women take advantage of the sexual stereotypes: as the men expect them to play a shy and passive poker game, women shock them with an aggressive style, introducing more opens and raises to their games.

"Women are perceived as having become much more assertive, independent, and competitive over the years," said Dickman.
