The Computex computer trade show held in Taipei, Taiwan took all the headlines last week, as several manufactures had a number of new products to display for the first time. And we are most probably going to see additional information coming from Computex these days too, although the show has officially closed its doors on 7th of June. One such piece of information is related to the network
storage devices released by Thecus.
Thecus is a company that has considerable experience in creating and manufacturing storage-related products, designed to bring support to both the consumer and the business market. And, because the company was present at this year's Computex, it also made its presence felt by releasing a much anticipated seven-bays NAS device. The company also updated its entire product line.
Dubbed Thecus N7700, this NAS box is powered by a Celeron M 2.0 CPU and, besides providing seven dray bays, it also features 1 GB of DDR2 memory. On the technical side, the N7700 comes with 2 GigE ports and a PCIe slot. This new model in the company's production line features RAID6 and live RAID level for migration support as well. The N7700 is also at the basis of the N8800 design, which is actually a rack-mountable version of the same product. Apparently, both products support IP cameras, which means that they can be used as part of a surveillance system, without requiring any PC mediating.
The company also released the Media Center M3800, which can obviously provide support to the consumer market. The product features three drives with LED on the bottom design that should come with the necessary storage support for a home media system. Being a true media-oriented product, the M3800 comes with HDMI and SPDIF optical outputs and ships with a remote control. Offering support for 3TB of storage space, this media center should be perfect for any home user.
Unfortunately, for none of these products official prices or availability have been made public.
