Video game publisher Ubisoft has launched the open beta phase for its title The Settler Online for those in the English speaking world, allowing all those interested in city development with a medieval feel to try out the game and offer feedback on the game mechanics.

The game is being developed by Blue Byte and offers a host of new features, most of them social oriented, like guilds, trading and other forms of interaction between players.

Thomas Paincon, who is an Publishing Directorat Ubisoft in Europe, stated, “The Settlers is a beloved, enduring franchise which strategy players from all over the world enjoy and it’s exciting to be able to offer those fans a new way to interact with the Settlers Universe.“The success of the free-to-play model is very encouraging and with the rollout of the English language European Open Beta beginning today, we are very optimistic about the future of the Settlers Brand.”

More than 1.5 million players took part in the beta when it launched in Russia, Germany and France.
