EA and Pandemic Studio are co-working on Mercenaries 2: World in Flames, the sequel to the best-selling new intellectual property of 2005 as Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction is now in the picture for the PS3. An Xbox 360 version is yet to be announced.

EA vice president and general manager, David DeMartini said: "We're thrilled to partner with Pandemic Studios and to be working together to make Mercenaries 2: World in Flames a global blockbuster. EA Partners is committed to providing the world's best development studios with access to EA's unrivaled global publishing resources, helping gamemakers reach the widest possible audience."

The game takes place in Venezuela, which is invaded after enemy interference with the country's oil supply. Features include cooperative multiplayer, enabling up to two players per mission. A partner can also join the player at any time of a mission. Players can start their own private military companies and hire mercenaries. Swim and dive underwater, as opposed to drowning in the last game, use boats and other aquatic vehicles, set fire to buildings, soldiers, vehicles, trees, and practically everything in massive, densely-packed urban environments such as Caracas, the Amazon jungle and cities like Maracaibo or Cuman?.

Co-publisher Pandemic Studios "...is excited to join forces with EA Partners to give Mercenaries 2: World in Flames a spectacular global launch," said Pandemic Studios CEO Andrew Goldman. "Mercenaries 2: World in Flames will set the bar for explosive, open world action games in the next generation, and everyone at Pandemic is excited that fans will be able to get their hands on it later this year."

Mercenaries 2: World in Flames is set for release sometime in 2007. It's as specific as they get so don't get your hopes up.
