Columbia Pictures is getting ready for the release of “This Is the End,” which Seth Rogen directed (with Evan Goldberg) and starred in and for which the studio has high hopes but, in the meantime, it’s also working to get another Rogen project underway.

The Hollywood Reporter informs that Rogen has signed on to direct and star in “The Interview.” The topical comedy will probably see him reunited with James Franco, who is being considered for lead.

However, he’s yet to enter into negotiations for the part.

“A topical comedy, the story revolves around a handsome talk show host (potentially Franco) and his producer (Rogen) who find themselves in way over their heads when they get involved in a plot to assassinate the prime minister of North Korea,” THR says.

“The rogue nation has been the butt of many jokes lately thanks to a recent visit by retired NBA player Dennis Rodman,” the publication adds.

Further details are not available for the time being.
