The TED conference is underway and Google's Sergey Brin had a chance to talk in front of the audience. Since' he's been leading development of Google Glass and he's been wearing the device everywhere, you can imagine what he was there to talk about. He touted the
freedom of Google Glass, the fact that you don't have to keep staring at a phone all the time so you can enjoy the world even more.
In fact, he called smartphones emasculating precisely because people spend so many time staring at them.
"You’re actually socially isolating yourself with your phone," he said during his talk. "You're standing around and just rubbing this featureless piece of glass."
Everyone can agree that some people, most people tend to focus too much on their phones in public. It's awkward, but it's probably not emasculating. Especially when presenting a computer strapped to your head as the alternative.
Glass does have its merits though, and it could prove revolutionary. Brin argues that this is the first type of device that allows him to execute on his vision of 15 years, a search engine that gets you answers and info before you even think to search for it.
