Tennis ace Serena Williams has been hospitalized the other day for treatment of a hematoma resulting from treatment of a pulmonary embolism. She is now at home, recuperating well and telling her fans that she’s happy her condition was discovered in due time.

In a statement released to all the major media outlets, Serena’s publicist says she went to the hospital in LA after flowing in from New York. She had a hematoma.

“Monday Serena Williams underwent emergency treatment at Cedars for a hematoma she suffered as a result of treatment for a more critical situation,” the rep of the 29-year-old tennis champion tells TMZ.

The more critical condition was that of pulmonary embolism, which occurs when the main artery to the lungs if blocked by a clot.

“Last week, Serena suffered from a pulmonary embolism [a blood clot in the lungs] which was discovered upon her return to LA. She had been in New York for doctor appointments for the ongoing issues with her foot,” the statement reads.

“Doctors are continuing to monitor her situation closely to avoid additional complications,” the rep says.

Since the statement came out, Serena has been released from the hospital and is now at home recuperating.

Thinking of how concerned her fans must be, she also released her own statement to People, saying that she was feeling better and had high hopes in her doctors as regards her recovery.

“Thank you everyone for all of your prayers, concerns, and support. This has been extremely hard, scary, and disappointing. I am doing better, I’m at home now and working with my doctors to keep everything under control,” the tennis ace says.

Hopefully, she will be back to the game by early summer but, because of the latest development in her health, she can’t make a promise of that.

“I know I will be okay, but am praying and hoping this will all be behind me soon,” Williams underlines.
