BioWare is keen on spreading the presence of its new franchise, Mass Effect, to as many mediums as possible, so it was no surprise to see that the developer created a game for Apple's iPhone, launched yesterday.

It seems that some players have already finished it, proof that it might be too short or that people are pretty much obsessed with everything related to Mass Effect, and, at the end of the game, a message appears, telling the player that the completion has earned them a bonus when Mass Effect 2 is released.

The iPhone application is selling for 4.99 dollars, which is quite a lot of money to pay for a game released on that platform, but the bonus hinted to at the end of it might just make it a must purchase for fans of the Mass Effect sequel.

The bad news is that BioWare is not naming the bonus, although it could be inferred that it is related in some way with Jacob Taylor, the central character of the iPhone game, who is also making an appearance in Mass Effect 2. To get the bonus, a player needs to long into the EA.com account and tie the Galaxy iPhone videogame to it.

Mass Effect is being worked on by Electronic Arts and BioWare, mainly because of the fact that it is one of the few new intellectual properties for the publisher that has generated both excitement amongst the gaming public and very good sales.

One of the big challenges for the second game, which is set to arrive by the end of the year, is to keep the base of the first release, a well told story, the overall feel of the galaxy and the character development, while changing elements like the combat system and the exploration mechanics for the better.
