New information is emerging in the days leading up to Apple’s now-confirmed September 12 event. Namely, the festivity is said to include an iPod refresh, in addition to the iPhone 5 unveiling.

Sources talking to 9to5mac say “details on the changes coming in these new iPods are currently scarce,” but the publication has reason to believe that “there will be at least two new/updated iPod lines and possibly a third.”

The players are likely to come in a rainbow of colors, multiple size capacities, and perhaps one line of iPods will be new. The site doesn’t believe that the third line is the iPod touch, but another iPod altogether.

There have been multiple rumors that Apple is returning to the elongated design of the iPod nano. However, this time around, the Cupertino company is said to be equipping the player with a stripped down version of the iOS. A Home button might also be present on the players (as shown in the rendering above by Taiyo Fujii).
