A paper shredder - $16.99. The renovation of a bank branch - $221 million. The bank vault plans - priceless. This would be the greatest motto the Bundesbank's Berlin branch could have used, as they chose to put sensitive bank documents right in the trash without
even shredding them. Moreover, the papers where found by a Berlin hairdresser, who according to Reuters, discovered them in a public bin, in the center of Berlin. The same source mentioned above wrote that the hairdresser was just attempting to throw away his rubbish when he first saw the documents.
"I wanted to throw away my rubbish and I noticed the plastic bag with the building sketches", he told, according to the German publication Bild, cited by Reuters. "A Bundesbank spokeswoman confirmed the Bild report, adding the bank was looking into how the plans could have ended up in a bin. She said she believed it would be impossible for anyone to break into the safety vault", Reuters continued.
It seems like the Berlin branch of Bundesbank has just finished renovation, which apparently cost no less than $221 million (approximately 150 million euros). The documents were probably used in renovation, as they contained all sorts of details including "the location of people detectors, stairwells, grilled gates and measurements with the depth of the vault's floor", as Bild noted in the article.
