It improves the sound of all digital tunes, or is supposed to

All motherboards, media players and other electronics with sound output can play pretty much anything, but quality isn't the same all around, especially in absence of a stereo system.

That is why some people actually buy headphone amplifiers: because they want rich sound but don't want to upgrade their whole media center.

Knowing this, Sennheiser has released the HDVD 800 digital headphone amplifier.

Then again, that's not totally accurate. The amplifier has been up for sale in Europe for a year. It's only people from the United States that haven't been able to get it.

This has now changed, so anyone with $2,000 / €1,554 to spare can get theirs.

I'm not exactly keen on the price, but Sennheiser is known for high-end, high-price products, so I can't claim total surprise at the sum.
