When in a bad mood, it is best to be selfish and not try to lend your partner a helping hand at sorting out various chores, specialists now say.

This is because doing so when not feeling like it stands to make one's mood go from bad to worse. Needless to say, this ultimately takes its toll on the couple's stability.

The researchers explain that, despite the fact that helping out one's partner will most definitely feel like the right thing to do, following through on this impulse will only cause an already stressed out person to experience more stress.

“On days when people were really stressed those sacrifices weren't really beneficial anymore, because it was just one more thing on the plate at that point,” researcher Casey Totenhagen reportedly said.

“If you've already had a really stressful day, and then you come home and you're sacrificing for your partner, it's just one more thing,” she later added.

Bottom line: when stressed or in a bad mood, feel free to act selfishly, or you'll risk finding yourself more stressed and in a worse mood.
