China is the place where jaw-dropping inventions are developed. This time, the mega power that continues to impress us claims its experts have come up with a new kind of fabric that can clean itself, while exposed to sunlight.

Once fully tested and implemented, this product could be adopted by the global fashion industry in no time, due to its remarkable benefits, the Guardian informs.

First of all, it would represent a useful tool in every water preservation campaign supported worldwide. Second, it would save us a lot of time, money and energy and could probably make washing machines go extinct.

Mingce Long and Deyong Wu from Shanghai Jiao Tong University are the two ingenious inventors who have published their findings in Applied Materials & Interfaces journal.

The new generation of clothes would have to display a layer of titanium dioxide and nitrogen compound. Experts say that if titanium dioxide is exposed to sunlight, it could decompose dirt and kill microbes.

Even though some skeptics would say fashion has nothing to do with high-tech solutions, the two Chinese developers are keen on proving them wrong.

Taking into account the tremendous environmental benefits offered by a potential success, like water and energy preservation, most scientists, fashion companies and eco-friendly clients await for noticeable results.

It is not the first time when green technologies go hand in hand with sustainable fashion.

An eco-conscious designer has launched its first collection of casual clothes equipped with solar panels meant to use renewable power to recharge our phones.

Every futuristic project usually has a bumpy start. Although only a small segment of people could picture their clothes being cleaned instantly in the presence of light, any efficient improvement that saves our money otherwise spent on expensive detergents, washing machines and communal launderettes is welcomed.
