14 DAY TRIAL // Selena Gomez has been making plenty of headlines in recent weeks, but not necessarily because she wants to: like many other celebrities before her, both male and female, she’s being body-shamed / fat-shamed online.
She already made it pretty clear that she was happy with her fuller figure and that she couldn’t care less about what nasty trolls had to say about her getting “fat.” Last night at the MET Gala 2015, held in New York at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, she shut these trolls up for good.
Selena wears Vera Wang, looks gorgeous
Since every big name in showbiz came out for the annual Costume Institute Benefit Gala, Selena couldn’t have passed on the chance to dress up to the nines and take part in such a major event in the fashion industry.
For this special evening, which had as theme “China: Through the Looking Glass,” she wore a white Vera Wang dress with black accents and of light Asian inspiration. The singer-actress had her hair pulled back in a tight bun, and opted for a flowery headpiece that made her look just like a princess.
Though she’d probably arrived for the event (and the afterparties) with some of her famous friends, Selena walked the red carpet alone, but she also posed for pictures with Wang. The designer is more popular for her gorgeous wedding dresses, but she’s obviously a sure pick for a gorgeous evening gown as well.
The Instagram photos below are from Selena’s feed: with one of them, she thanks Wang for making her feel like a princess again. The other is confirmation that Selena was one of the many celebrities to break the MET Gala selfie ban, which reportedly went up some hours before the show, in an attempt to keep the entire affair classy as in previous years.
The ban was not a success, that much is clear.
Selena and the “fat” controversy
The Internet can be a very vicious place because it offers many the chance to say the nastiest things you can imagine without fearing any sort of reprimand.
A couple of weeks back, Selena and a bunch of friends went to Mexico for a little R&R, in between job appointments. Paparazzi followed her there, and in a matter of hours, photos of her at the beach surfaced online.
You can probably tell from the MET Gala photos as well (see gallery below) that Selena has gained some weight. She is by no means “fat” or “overweight,” but she’s heavier than she was a few months back.
To many commenters online, she’s gotten so “fat” that she “should” be ashamed to ever wear a 2-piece swimming suit again until she rids herself of the excess weight. To the same commenters, Selena has this to say, “I love being happy with me yall #theresmoretolove.”
