Selena Gomez says media needs to allow her to grow up, not pin labels on her
Selena Gomez says media needs to allow her to grow up, not pin labels on her

She’s literally a cutsie patootsie, with her big hazel eyes and innocent face, but if there’s one thing that Selena Gomez hates about how she’s perceived in the media that’s her “wholesome” image.

The Disney star, who’s already enjoying the support of a very impressive fanbase for her achievements in music and acting, says she doesn’t like how she’s portrayed in the media.

It’s not that she’s not “wholesome,” she says in a recent interview cited by Monsters And Critics, but rather that she’d like to be allowed to find out for herself who she is before she’s labeled in any way.

In saying these things, Selena seems to be treading in the footsteps of another Disney teen idol, Miley Cyrus, who also recently embarked on a journey of self-discovery, which translates musically into an edgier sound and a more aggressive public image.

“The funny thing is, I really don’t like it when people say I’m wholesome. I don’t like that at all! I never said I was that and I never tried to portray it,” Selena says in the aforementioned interview.

Like just any other teenager out there, she should be offered the chance to create herself the label pinned on her by the media. “I’m honestly doing what I feel like I’m doing... and I’d just like to figure out who I am,” she explains.

For those fearing that Selena may turn into the next Lindsay Lohan (and not few are those who are already predicting this for her), worry no more: the star has very strong role models and she’s consequently aiming high.

“I look up to people my family loves. [My inspirations] are Rachel McAdams and Sandra Bullock. They’re very strong women in the acting world and really real people and I love them,” she explains, as per the same publication.

As of now, Selena hasn’t said a word about whether she plans on changing her look or sound like Myley did before her – but rest assured you’ll find out about it when and if she does.
