You wouldn’t expect 19-year-old singer and actress Selena Gomez to say she’s under pressure to be a certain way, but she is not immune to it. The Disney star is featured in the latest issue of Glamour magazine, talking about Hollywood and what she makes of it.

Ever since she was little, she was confronted with people telling her that she couldn’t do this or that thing, Selena reveals.

Now that she’s more confident in herself, she knows that she can prove her skeptics wrong, but she still admits that there’s always pressure to fit in.

“You have this pressure to fit in and you want people to like you. I try my best to be a good person and be the best I can be,” she says.

“When I was 11 years old, I had a grown woman who was a casting director tell me I was not strong enough to carry the lead in any project,” Selena recalls.

She still hears that every once in a while, though not as often as back when she was so young.

“Now I’m doing things that I love, and I’m working really hard. I never want to play the victim or anything, but of course everybody deals with it,” the star explains for the magazine.

As for how much media attention she’s getting these days for her romance with Justin Bieber, Selena just wants to point out that both of them are young, so no one should really take their relationship too seriously.

“I’m 19, so I feel like everything that I’m doing right now should not be taken too seriously. I should be able to have fun and enjoy where I’m at!” Selena says.

“So I don’t want to spend my time hiding or worrying about all of that,” she adds.

These past few days saw various breakup rumors emerge online, but they were proved false at Sunday’s Teen Choice Awards 2011, when Justin and Selena were inseparable the entire evening – and often made sure they kissed each other affectionately before the cameras.
