The schedule of the Japanese company prevents it from coming to the expo in Cologne

Large Japanese company Sega has confirmed that it won’t be present at Gamescom 2012 in August as its release schedule doesn’t allow it enough time to maintain a proper booth at the large expo in Cologne, Germany.

Gamescom is Europe’s biggest gaming conference and one of the most visited by attendants, coming second only to the Asia Game Show. As such, you can bet that many companies want to have big booths at the trade fair in order to attract as many gamers as possible.

Sega, however, isn’t among them, as the company has confirmed, via GamesIndustry, that it won’t have a booth at the 2012 edition of Gamescom because the expo, which is held in August, interferes with the launch of several games.

"Sega has made the decision not to attend Gamescom this year," said the company in a statement about the decision. "Unfortunately the release timing of our 2012 AAA titles and new projects don't work with the mid- August scheduling of the show.”

This doesn't mean that Sega will skip future Gamescom expos, as the Japanese company has emphasized that the decision only applies to the 2012 edition and that it might make a comeback next year.

“The decision will not mean that Sega will never attend Gamescom in the future, this was simply a commercial decision made for 2012," the company added.

This marks another loss for Gamescom, as Nintendo previously announced that it is not showing off its Wii U next generation home console to attendants, despite being set to reveal the newest version of the device at E3 2012 in June.

Gamescom 2012 takes place between 15 and 19 August, although the first day is reserved only for members of the media.

Expect to hear some more news about the major expo as we get closer to the opening date this summer.
