2009 will bring us a bunch of sweet original IPs

Platinum Games and Sega have announced a partnership that will have as a result the creation of four exclusive IPs for Sega. Even more, three of them have already been detailed and, as expected from the creators of Okami, they seem to be really promising titles. Infinite Line, Bayonetta and Madworld are the first titles announced, with the fourth (directed by Shinji Mikami) being kept a secret for the time being.

All the three games are expected to be released during 2009 and both companies seem to be very pleased with signing the agreement: "The creative forces at PlatinumGames bring a new level of imagination into the SEGA family at a pivotal time in the video game industry when the demand for quality, originality and fun has never been greater," as Tatsuya Minami, President and CEO, PlatinumGames said. "These new titles will contribute meaningfully to SEGA's brand, while adding a new level of depth to the strategic portfolio of games in our library."

Madworld is expected to be the first game to hit the market in the first quarter of 2009, as a Nintendo Wii exclusive. It will be a third-person action game that will probably come as quite a shock to some Wii fans, thanks to its black and white graphics and probably some crude violence, and keeping in mind that you'll have to use as a weapon any item you find on the streets. We're glad that, finally, somebody has decided to fill an empty spot in the Nintendo Wii gaming library.

Infinite Line, the second game to be delivered by Platinum Games will be a Nintendo DS exclusive and it will hit the game stores "sometime" during 2009. It will be a space-based RPG that will allow players to control, build and customize no less that 150 spaceships. Combine that with over 200 characters and the ability to control more than one ship at any given time and you'll definitely start to wonder if the little Nintendo DS can handle all that. It seems it can and we really want to test that as soon as possible!

The third title detailed by Sega and Platinum Games is called Bayonetta and it is by far the most exciting project. A true next-gen game, developed for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles, Bayonetta will be a cinematic action game where huge enemies and extremely gory fights will entertain you throughout the entire experience. The heroine will probably make you love her (we didn't get the chance to see her entirely, but it's just a strong feeling we have). Anyway... the game will be released sometime during next year and, until we get more details, we can only wonder: keeping in mind that such ambitious projects have been announced, how huge can the fourth title, the one that is kept a secret, be?
