Sega MEGA DRIVE Frenzy – Virtua Fighter 2 on Virtual Console

- Also lined up are two more highly addictive puzzle platformers

By: Filip Truta, Games Editor

Although today's news brings yet another oldie to the Wii's Virtual Console service, I'm not going to criticize the lack of next-gen titles, over the
abundance of old NES, SNES and Sega systems titles, because this is one of the most beloved classics ever. Originally released for Sega's MEGA DRIVE system, Wii owners today have the possibility to download and play the all time winning fighting game, Virtua Fighter 2, for just 800 Wii points.

The game practically started the 3D fighting genre frenzy, with classic characters such as Kage-Maru and Lion Rafale, featuring a complex control scheme, making Street Fighter look like a total joke. Virtua Fighter 2 presents gamers with 11 characters to choose from, nine of which are original Virtua Fighter characters. Lion Rafale and Shun Di are new comers to the 1996 title.

Also joining Virtual Console this week are two more classic platform games, again original SEGA MEGA DRIVE installments, both available for 800 Wii Points.

1 - the highly addictive Wonder Boy in Monster World, featuring combined traditional platform action with RPG elements such as gathering clues from townspeople and upgrading weapons and armor.

2 - an exciting platformer where players must solve puzzles - in Alex Kidd In The Enchanted Castle gamers must defeat enemies to save Alex’s kidnapped father, enjoying a unique ‘Rock, Paper, Scissors’ boss battle mechanic through eleven retro stages.

And as previously announced Wii owners will also have the opportunity to download and play the Turbografx original action shooter Shockmanm, for 600 Wii points.

All these and other 81 classic titles are available for the Virtual Console in Europe.
