Virtua Fighter was the first 3D fighting game in the industry and introduced eight unique characters, each with their own martial arts style. In Virtua Fighter 2, the intrepid fighters return to the World Fighting Tournament along with two new opponents: Shun-Di, a spry 82-year-old highly skilled in the drunken kung-fu style (also known as Monkey Kung-Fu) and Lion Rafale, an expert at Tourou-Ken. The Genesis/Mega Drive port was re-released on the PS2 and PSP in 2006 as part of Sega Genesis Collection, and on the Virtual Console for the Nintendo Wii on March 20, 2007 (Japan) and April 16, 2007 (North America).

VF2 was known for breakthrough graphics at the time. It used Sega's Model 2 arcade hardware to run the game at 60 frames per second at a high resolution with no slowdown. The Saturn version was also extremely impressive for its time, especially given the system's 3D programming difficulties. It became a huge hit in Japan and sold relatively well in other markets.

Cheats

Hidden options:
Enter the options screen, highlight the "Exit" selection, and tap Left until the hidden options are displayed.

Fight as Dural:
Hold Left at the character selection screen until the countdown reaches "one". Dural will appear as a selection.

Extended character selection time:
Press Down, Up, Right, A + Left at the character selection screen for 99 seconds of time.

Alternate costumes:
Press Down + A, Up + A, Down + C, or Up + C at the character selection screen.

No damage:
Hold B while highlighting player one's life selection at the options screen until the message "No Damage" appears. Then, press Start.
