This classic title features Alex Kidd! Alex had given up hope that his kidnapped father, King Thor, would return to the kingdom on Planet Aries. When the news arrived that he was very much alive and being held captive on the planet Paperock, Alex raced to his rescue. Throughout 11 levels, players will battle enemies and avoid obstacles while winning coins that will buy you special items and vehicles. At the end of each level, players will encounter a boss and enter into a match of "Paper, Scissors, Rock." Throw the right symbols and you'll be ever closer to bringing King Thor home; throw the wrong symbols and you'll be squashed beneath a heavy weight.
In the original Japanese version of the game,
when Alex Kidd or his opponent loses a Rock Paper Scissors match, the loser's clothes disappear, leaving him with nothing but a fig leaf over his crotch; if a female loses, she has one covering her crotch, and two covering her breasts. In the Western versions, the loser is squashed beneath a heavy weight. Several levels were renamed for the Western release as well (For example, the Japanese versions first level is called "Bikini Town").
Because of the more sexual connotations of the Japanese version, it was rumored that Sega Japan was planning to promote Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle towards a more mature audience. (Wikipedia)
Tips and Tricks
Skip rock-scissors-paper sequences: Approach any boss and wait until the conversation ends. Press Start to display the options screen, then press Start again to resume game play.
Treasure room: Jump on the blocks just before the first palm tree on the first level, Rookie Town. Alex will break them and drop into an area full of chests and four enemies.
Extra lives: Go to the options screen before starting the game. Change the difficulty to easy to get four lives instead of two.
