It has been a nice day for Twitter power users as the two most popular Twitter desktop apps, TweetDeck and Seesmic Desktop, have both been upgraded to new versions. First up was Seesmic Desktop, the younger of the two, which was updated to version 0.3, which will only be available to members of Team Seesmic and will continue Seesmic's fast rate of development by adding some new features to its already compelling set of tools, like easy access to your photo and URL shortening service.

Seesmic Desktop is based on the Adobe AIR technology and it has gathered a big following in the short time since it was launched, in April, by bringing some, then, innovating features to Twitter desktop clients and continually being improved. The multiple-account feature that it first introduced has gotten some updates in the latest version, making it much easier to switch between Twitter and Facebook accounts. A new feature called “Smart Account Enabling,” which automatically changes the selected account when replying to a tweet based on its origin, has also been introduced.

“We've upgraded the user interface to select which accounts to send posts to, saving you the time and effort it takes to post to each account separately. We've also added an option for Smart Account Enabling. With this feature turned on, this will allow Seesmic Desktop to change accounts when messaging your friends based on whom you are replying or direct messaging to. Seesmic will not change the accounts if you do not enable Smart Account,” reads the post announcing the release.

Another big improvement in the new version is the integration of third-party services like the Bit.ly URL shortener or the TwitPic photo sharing service. Uploading a photo from the desktop client will link it with the selected TwitPic account and, similarly, using a link it will correlate it with your Bit.ly account allowing you to track its stats.
