When tanning at the beach, the biggest problem women come across is that of the sometimes unaesthetic tan lines. Since not all of us have the courage to sunbathe in minuscule bathing suits or without one, Kiniki has come up with the perfect alternative: a revolutionary swimsuit that allows sunlight to pass through it, thus contributing to a perfect tan with no lines.

The Tan Through Kiniki line, launched just four weeks ago, is reportedly hailed as the solution women (and men too) have been looking for the tan lines problem for years. The idea behind it is also simple: each bathing suit is full of holes, minuscule holes that allow sun rays to reach the skin and give it that bronze look. Modesty is also duly preserved, no matter the model of bathing suit people choose, since they all come with heavy patterns that confuse the eye into seeing a regular swimsuit – albeit this one becomes transparent when held into the light.

“They are selling like hot cakes. We only officially launched four weeks ago but we cannot keep up with demand at the moment. […] I had some fishnet material in the cutting room and light was coming in from the overhead skylights. I realized using a fabric with holes would be brilliant for tanning through – if it wasn’t totally inappropriate. Then I came up with the idea of prints to confuse the eye and have been working on design for the last six years. If you hold it up to a window you can see right through it but once on the body it looks just like a normal swimsuit.” John Walker, 58, owner of Kiniki says of how the idea came to be – and ultimately take over the market in the UK.

Still, while a perfect tan is guaranteed with the new swimsuit models (sunlight reaches the skin in a percentage of up to 80% with this revolutionary product) and the modesty of the wearer is preserved, there is just one little thing that people should be careful about, as Walker explains. Each bathing suit (be it one-piece or two-piece) has an elastic seam that has to be moved to avoid tanning lines.

With the product being in so high demand, it’s no wonder several health organizations have already pointed out that, by wearing one such swimsuit, we actually increase our chances or skin cancer by exposing more skin to the Sun. Because of this, “We recommend that you put the same sun protection on underneath the swimsuit as you would on the exposed parts of your body.” Mr. Walker underlines.
