Universal seeking “vintage techies” to be in the attending crowds at the events depicted in Aaron Sorkin’s script

Starting early next year, Universal will begin shooting one of the most anticipated movies depicting the history of personal computing and technology in general. And the studio wants regular folk like you as extras in the movie.

A cast notice put forth by Universal last week reveals that “Production’s strongest need is for Men 18-40s with flexible schedules and comb-able length hair and/or men willing to grow their hair, facial hair, sideburns to match 80s-90s time periods. Women should have natural hair colors, no chunky highlights or ultra modern styles. Overall for men and women, curls, waves and volume are a plus. Production will provide haircuts as needed.”

The call is for extras to make up the audience for Jobs’s (Michael Fassbender’s) showcases of the original Macintosh, the NeXT computer that he unveiled after leaving Apple, and the iPod, which he introduced after his triumphant return at 1 Infinite Loop, Cupertino, California.

Three half-hour scenes

According to an early interview done with playwright Aaron Sorkin, who penned the script, this “JOBS” movie will be nothing like the one starring Ashton Kutcher.

Instead of a predictable cradle-to-grave structure, Sorkin adopted a play-like concept where “the entire movie is going to be three scenes and three scenes only,” he said in 2012. “That all take place in real time. There will be no time cuts and each will take place before a product launch. Backstage before a product launch. The first one being the Mac, the second one being NeXT, after he had left Apple. And the third one being the iPod.”

A troublesome production

The much delayed project was initially Sony’s, but after incurring issues with the producers, directors, and the actors starring in the film, the studio decided to hand the baton to Universal and let them deal with the fuss.

As it stands, Danny Boyle will direct, while Scott Rudin, Mark Gordon, and Guymon Casady will be in charge of the production. Jobs will be played by Michael Fassbender, while Seth Rogen is said to be on hand to play Woz.

The infamous John Sculley, who fired Jobs from his own company in the ‘80s, will reportedly be played by Dumb and Dumber star Jeff Daniels, while Chrisann Brennan will play Jobs’ first wife.
