Rocky Sand Studio Ltd. is offering a free solution for MacBook owners looking to keep tabs on the health of their laptop’s battery, complete with status information, all in a neat interface. Best of all, the app is completely free of charge.

Compatible only with MacBooks (basically because desktops don’t run on batteries), Battery Diag helps you access battery details from your menu bar, offering a quick overview of the most important health and status information of your laptop’s battery.

You get a Current Charge reading, a Battery Capacity reading, the sum of total and partial discharge cycles, the actual lifespan of your battery cell (calculated in mAh), temperature, general power usage, the actual power source (battery adapter), and the general condition of your battery.

Version 1.0.1 was deployed this week with fixes for Retina display compatibility and other code corrections. To download Battery Diag, you need a MacBook Air or MacBook Pro running any version of OS X 10.9 (Mavericks) and, of course, a 64-bit processor.

As noted above, the price of the application is $0 and there are no tricky in-app purchases or ads. The reviews up on the Mac App Store indicate that people are generally pleased with the functionality of the app.
