Even if Sony has released its own solution for revealing hidden rootkits that were installed when running Sony BMG Music Entertainment protected CDs, some security companies don't think that's enough. There are now available solutions that not only identify the rootkits but also remove them from the affected computer.
The scandal caused by spying elements on Sony CDs reached epic
proportions last week as the public was in shock to associate a system used mainly by hackers now being adopted by a company like Sony.
The security companies had very different reactions to this matter though, and while some thought that the rootkits are to be considered only adware, others are getting very agitated and see the Sony rootkits as dangerous spyware that needs to be removed immediately in order to preserve the system from being overtaken.
Computer Associates declared war on these rootkits and the PestPatrol software
available here, enables users to remove the spyware Sony elements from their systems. These rootkits are considered dangerous trojans by CA, and the reason for that is that they behave as such, being installed without the user ever knowing and only briefly mentioning something very vague in the User License Agreement.
