Netvibes is an innovative service that was meant to represent an alternative to the classic homepage offered by every browser, providing quick access to multiple Internet services. The design of the Netvibes page is quite attractive because it allows you to add your favorite products, news solutions, feeds or web-based instant messengers and organize them with ease. One of the most interesting functions provided by the product is the mail support that helps you check the inbox of multiple mail accounts: Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail or AOL Mail.

Netvibes is fully customizable because it allows you to modify every aspect of the homepage, offering the possibility to change even the title of the site. As you probably know, the search giant Google provides a similar product, Google Personalized Homepage that helps you create your own website improved with Google's products such as search or Gmail.

Although I like Netvibes more than Google Personalized Homepage, the search giant's product is more popular and apparently more secure. It seems like a security flaw was identified in the Netvibes code but the company decided to keep it private until a fix is released. Today, they posted a message on the official blog to announce the release of a patch that may help them repair the vulnerability.

"Unfortunately one of our developers, who checks all the modules and analyzes them, was a victim of this module and his personal development environment was exposed online. By reading the content of one of his webnote, the module developer gained access to his personal development database and published private screenshots online. Our response was immediate because the module developer unethically exposed the vulnerability on his blog before contacting us. Thanks to our community of developers, we were alerted fast enough to work quickly and provide the fix," Netvibes sustained in the blog post.
