Protect your website against a wide range of cyber threats

If you fear that your WordPress website might have been compromised by hackers, I recommend installing a useful free tool from Sucuri: SiteCheck Malware Scanner.

The Sucuri SiteCheck plugin is designed to scan a website for spam, malware, cross-site scripting (XSS), defacements, PHP mailers, phishing attempts, malicious redirects, drive-by downloads, social engineering attacks, obfuscated JavaScript injections, and hidden malicious iframes.

Sucuri SiteCheck also uses the APIs of several blacklisting authorities – including Sucuri, Google, Norton, AVG, ESET, Phish Tank, Yandex and McAfee Site Advisor – to see if it has been blacklisted for malware, spam or phishing.

The security application can also protect a website by making sure the PHP and WordPress versions are always up to date, by restricting access to wp-content and wp-includes, by protecting the uploads directory, and by disabling theme and plugin editors.

The latest versions of the plugin also monitor the WordPress core files for changes that can indicate the presence of a backdoor.
