WISeKey has launched an iPhone application that allows you to secure your text messages. It’s called WISeSMS and you can download the lite version for free from the App Store right now.

Developed for the delivery and receipt of encrypted text messages, WISeSMS encrypts text and recognizes the native delivery platforms on a mobile device to send sensitive and private communications, according to WISeKey.

The developing company explains that standard messages are delivered as plain text, therefore they are always vulnerable to the threat of interception.

WISeSMS encrypts the message rendering it unreadable without the key to decode the text.

The company said, “We know that interception exists: as the news of widespread mobile phone hacking continues to make headlines, WISeSMS is one additional measure of communication security that can be used.”

According to WISeKey, the encrypted text is not limited to messaging.

Users can employ WISeSMS to serve them in any communications service, including email or chat, Twitter and Facebook.

The upcoming release of WISeID version 3.0, slated to launch this September, will be bundled with WISeSMS, according to the developers.

WISeKey highlights some of the main features in WISeSMS, which include:

✓ Quickly and easily Encrypt any text message, and then send by SMS if supported or copy to your messaging program ✓ Decrypt a WISeSMS encrypted message ✓ Encryption key derived from password ✓ Strong AES symmetric-key encryption ✓ Password can be changed for each message, increasing security and protection ✓ Convenient selection of recipients from your phone's address book

In tandem with the application release, WISeKey also launched a WISeSMS website that provides the same text encrypting service in a web browser.
