Bitdefender decided to lend its innovative security solutions to NetSecure, a company that specializes in providing eCommerce services, with the purpose of releasing the first secure personal credit card reader.

Bitdefender’s QuickScan will be integrated into NetSecure’s SmartSwipe after recent reports showed that online credit card fraud has significantly increased.

SmartSwipe is a simple credit card reader that can be powered from any computer’s USB port, keeping consumers safe while they’re shopping online. This works by quickly scanning the computer for any malicious keyloggers that may be present on the device utilized by the customer.

If any threats are detected, the user is advised on how to remove them and even offered a free trial of Bitdefender Internet Security.

“Integrating QuickScan, BitDefender’s fast malware assessment solution with SmartSwipe combines the best cloud-based, always up-to-date security scanning tool with strong hardware driven protection. This raises security to a new level for online transactions,” said Peter Laakkonen, BitDefender’s general manager of OEM and Technology Licensing.

How come it is the malware scanning that is highlighted here and not the hardware encryption? I'm supposed to feel better that if I swipe my card and malware is detected, the merchant is offered a free Bitdefender trial? Just-in-time inventory is a great idea for manufacturing. Just-in-time security is too little, too late.
