A simplified user interface and automatic patching

Useful especially for non-technical users, the new build simplifies even more the update process for software on your system, in order to keep exploitable vulnerabilities at bay.

After spending four months in the beta stage of development, Secunia Personal Software Inspector 3.0 moved today to the stable release.

Among the highlights of this version, there is a very much simplified user interface that displays only the most relevant information. This includes the scan results, security status of installed applications and the moment all of them are up-to-date.

However, the game changing feature in Secunia PSI 3.0 is automatic pushing of security updates to users, for all supported software. In order to achieve this, update packages are developed in-house, for all vendors that Secunia supports.

Ignore rules are also part of Secunia PSI 3.0, allowing you to ignore updates for a particular program. This comes in handy if you want to avoid compatibility issues between programs or various plug-ins.

All updates installed and system scans are logged and can be checked out in the History section of the application.

According to the developer, there are currently more than five million Secunia PSI users worldwide, but this number is likely to change since localization of the program has been extended to include French, Spanish, German, Danish and English.

Even so, the company aims much higher, with Morten R. Stengaard, director of Product Management and Quality Assurance at Secunia, saying that the goal is that “the new Secunia PSI 3.0 to be trusted not by just a few million users, but by everyone that has a private PC, and to do that it was absolutely critical that it be re-designed with the broader target group in mind.”
