There may not be another FX CPU now that the FX-8580 is out

It might not be true. I hope it won't be, but a rumor is a rumor, and sometimes some of them turn out to be more than “just” rumors.

VR-Zone are the ones acting as the messengers here. What they claim is that they have discovered a secret AMD roadmap that reveals something worrisome.

No slides were actually posted, so we can't even say there is supporting evidence.

Anyway, the report says that AMD's 5 GHz FX-9590 might be the last FX CPU we'll ever see, as AMD is thinking of retiring the series altogether.

It sounds kind of wasteful after the latest logo update, but there you are.

Of course, after launching a 5 GHz CPU and still not getting any points over Intel's high-end series (not that AMD was necessarily seeking any), it's not all that shocking that AMD would move its resources elsewhere.

Then again, rather than dump the FX brand, AMD may just skip one generation and launch another only in 2015 or late 2014.
